Research Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise ENAC research team including researchers, research assistants, and interns
  • Lead and manage policy research activities to successfully meet their goals
  • Conduct comprehensive research and produce at policy research paper(s) on at least one of the five thematic sectors stated in the Framework for Political Dialogue: (1) Polities, (2) Social Issues, (3) Economics, (4) Security, and (5) Land and Environmental Conservation in preparation for the political negotiation
  • Produce policy briefings, analysis, and recommendations and provide consultation when required
  • Oversee and provide necessary support to the production of policy research products 
  • Implement policy briefing meetings, workshops, and other policy activities for policy development and preparation along with the project team
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure successful implementation of all research and policy activities to meet the project’s objectives and work-plan
  • Work with policy consultants and obtain other resources as necessary for successful and timely production of research products and activities
  • Support in building and maintaining formal and informal partnerships with local and international universities and research institutions based on ENAC’s partnership principles
  • Initiate research topics in consultation with the researchers 
  • Manage and maintain research database and library
  • Lead distribution of ENAC publications
  • Oversee some functions of the ENAC Yangon office
  • Perform other duties as required 
  • Report to the Executive Director

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in politics, social science, economics, and/or conflict and peace studies
  • At least three-year experience in conducting policy research
  • Experience in publishing at least two or more research papers
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating research and policy development activities
  • Experience in managing and supervising research team
  • Strong ability to coordinate and partner with external research institutions and resources
  • Strong ability to work with team members and individuals with various levels of research experience
  • Strong ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment and meet required deadlines
  • Excellent contextual understanding the peace process in Myanmar, the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, the Framework for Political Development (FPD), and the five thematic sectors in the FPD – (1) Politics, (2) Social Issue, (3) Economics, (4) Security, and (5) Land and Environmental Conservation
  • Excellent knowledge of federal principles and characteristics
  • Demonstrable knowledge and appreciation of diversity and peaceful co-existence in Myanmar
  • Fluent in both written and spoken Burmese
  • Fluent in written and full professional proficiency in spoken English
  • Ability to speak and write an ethnic language is preferred

Working Conditions:

The Research Manager will primarily work from Yangon, Myanmar
