Preliminary Bilateral Meeting between Peace Implementation Committee of KNPP and Peace Commission of NRPC

The Peace Implementation Committee of Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) and the Peace Commission of National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) held a preliminary bilateral meeting at the NRPC office in Yangon, Myanmar on March 7, 2018.
This informal meeting was the first bilateral meeting held between KNPP and the Government of Myanmar since the process of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement began. It also marked the 6th anniversary of the bilateral ceasefire agreement between KNPP and the Government of Myanmar.
The KNPP discussed the implementation of matters related to Joint Monitoring Committee, the restoration of liaison officers at union and state levels, military issues, and development at the state lavel as stipulated in bilateral agreements between KNPP and the Government of Myanmar.
Moreover, KNPP discussed ways to move forward in the peace process through the NCA path as well as issues related to the 8 Points Proposal of the United Nationalities Federal Council that have not been resolved.
In order to formally negotiate the matters above, KNPP proposed a formal meeting between KNPP Peace Implementation Committee and the Government Peace Commission to be held in Loikaw, Karenni State. However, as no agreement was reached regarding the propsed formal meeting, KNPP will continue to seek an agreement for the meeting to take place.
